December 09, 2010
Project-Based Section 8 “How Your Rent is Determined”
HUD has released an updated version of the Project-Based Section 8 Fact Sheet for HUD assisted residents. This Fact Sheet outlines how the resident’s rent is determined, what is considered income or assets, as well as the Owner/Agent and resident’s responsibilities and rights regarding income disclosure and verification. As a reminder, this Fact Sheet must be provided to all applicants during the move-in verification process, as well as all current residents during annual recertification. Documentation of distribution must be maintained in the resident file.
What’s new with this version?
- Minor formatting changes were made.
- All asterisks (**) have been removed. In the previous June 2007 version these were utilized to indicate a change, or new guidance.
- The following statement was removed from the section titled Federally Mandated Exclusions: “Amounts of scholarships funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, including awards under the Federal work-study program or under the Bureau of Indian Affairs student assistance programs.”
